Marking and hot-dip galvanizing
In order for the markings used for identification on industrial parts to be easy to read and do not deteriorate the quality of the zinc coating, they must be specially prepared for the hot-dip galvanizing process.
So the marking should not be applied with oil paint or markers on its basis, as under the marking when galvanizing formed non-galvanized area.
Therefore, the parts that shall be subjected to galvanizing. Marking must be performed in one of the proposed ways:
- Temporary marking is a removable label made of metal or is performed with water-soluble paints;
- Permanent marking is carried out by means of stamping or weld..
Labels that can be removed if necessary – the most popular method of time marking. These marks can be left on the parts during galvanizing, and removed after delivery to the customer.
After zinc treatment, the mark can be read, which reduces the time of work on the part and reduces the risk of part loss due to the impossibility of identification.
It is also common method of marking with paint or marker, soluble in water. The method is good when it is important that the part is fully galvanized. After the galvanizing process is finished, the mark will not be visible. If the customer needs to mark the part after galvanizing, this method is unacceptable.
If necessary, permanent marking of steel parts to be galvanized, the following methods are used:
Stamping the surface of the markable details make using a stencil or punch. Markings are always located in a specific place on all products. Usually labels are placed in a prominent place. They should be large and deep enough for easy reading after zinc treatment.
It is permissible to mark the product by welding, if the entire flux is thoroughly cleaned, so that its presence does not affect the quality of galvanizing.
Deep painting on the stencil is made separately, then the stencil is attached to the marked product, often by welding.
To reduce the time for the production of hot-dip galvanizing and get the result of high quality galvanizing, to remove the marking, if chemical cleaning is not enough, it is advisable to use abrasive cleaning.
